Edge computing, or smart edge, is any device that can process data on premises. Edge computing is combined with Internet of Things (IoT) devices, especially devices that can react to their environment. A standalone IoT device typically records information and sends it to the cloud for analysis. The results are then sent back to the IoT device, so it can respond. An IoT device with edge computing can collect, analyze and react to data all in the same device.
