A revived digital experience
Bounce Children’s Foundation is a nonprofit organization that transforms the lives of children with chronic illnesses — and the lives of their families. Through a unique portfolio of highly effective, free programs, it combats the hardships they face daily. Regardless of the patients’ income, ethnicity, gender or disease type, Bounce offers a warm, welcoming community of fun and friendship, education and resources, hope and encouragement. From assisting with family outings and peer support to providing education and care packages, Bounce is there 24/7 from diagnosis through treatment — for as long as it takes.
Bounce supports the needs of its members and public visitors through its public-facing website, bouncechildrensfoundation.org.
Leaders recognized that the site had an outdated presence. They envisioned expanding events for families of children with medical challenges across America and finding new ways to communicate the company’s message to the public. But limited IT expertise and a lack of resources needed to properly configure the site made it difficult to achieve these goals.
The Bounce staff knew it was time for a revamp. When Insight’s Digital Innovation team heard about the foundation’s dilemma, we quickly volunteered to step in to redesign its mobile and online platform.
Revamping online persona to solve digital needs
Staying current with digital tools can at times be a burden for small businesses such as Bounce, which staffs only a handful of full-time employees. Originally, Bounce approached Insight about creating a mobile application. But as the envisioning process progressed, our team determined that a more responsive website could meet the nonprofit’s needs without overburdening Bounce’s small staff. In devising a new digital strategy, our experts began rebuilding the antiquated online presence into a single platform that would be easier to maintain.
The new site enables an enhanced user experience for its online community of families to engage with the organization’s programs and one another. It renders well on mobile devices and gives site administrators deeper analytics to better understand user behaviors.
Bringing it all together
Among other improvements to the Bounce site, Insight framed each page with a ribbon that gives site visitors the option to join, refer families, volunteer or make contributions, including donating tickets to sports and entertainment events through the Bounce It Forward program. An event calendar that was once static and view-only is now interactive, allowing member families to register for Bounce Bash family adventures and Bounce Academy® education sessions.
“Some of the things Bounce wants to do in the future just couldn’t be done on its old infrastructure,” said Brent Breithaupt, regional delivery leader for Insight Digital Innovation, and a member of Bounce’s board of directors. “Rebuilding that foundation to make it easier for parents to register for events or for anyone to make a donation should really propel Bounce forward.”
Overall, Insight teammates volunteered more than 800 hours to the project, helping Bounce earn a Social Innovator Award at the 18th annual Chicago Innovation Awards.
“Thanks to Insight, Bounce’s digital presence is enormously improved. Our new site provides a better user experience to both first-time and returning visitors, with greater functionality and a superior look and feel. Feedback from families, donors, partners and volunteers has been extremely positive. We’re truly grateful to the Insight team for their passionate commitment to helping kids and families connect to overcome the extreme isolation they face,” said Joan Steltmann, Bounce founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Delivering meaningful outcomes to our community
Technology can be a critical component to maintaining a business’s relevance and expanding opportunities for growth. Together, Insight and the Bounce Children’s Foundation created a more accessible platform that promotes the company’s mission, connects its communities and, ultimately, helps children bounce back from illness.
