When it became clear that a major financial institution’s current Microsoft Licensing Solution Provider (LSP) wasn’t delivering the support and added value the organization needed, the search began for a better way to manage its software licenses and agreements.

Because the LSP didn’t have a local presence or comprehensive consulting capabilities, it was unable to maximize the value of the client’s software assets. For a fair assessment, the client compared Insight’s offerings to three other potential LSPs and spoke to three reference contacts, who vouched for our strong Microsoft expertise.

The client was impressed with the breadth of Insight’s capabilities. In particular, the financial firm stood to benefit the most from our SAM services and tools, such as our SAM Assessment and SAM Workshop, as well as our Enterprise License Manager.

An Insight SAM Assessment uses clear, credible analytics to show clients how they stack up to industry standards and recommends ways to improve SAM practices. The SAM Workshop then provides a definitive listing of the organization’s software license entitlements and helps the client prepare for audits and prevent under- and overbuying licenses.

Once the client has a clear picture of what it has and what it will need in the future, Enterprise License Manager helps maintain visibility into the software assets going forward.

Achieving cost savings through licensing optimization

Insight’s comprehensive SAM services were an important deciding factor in why the client submitted a Change of Software Advisor (COSA) naming Insight as its new LSP for the organization’s Microsoft Enterprise Agreement and Server and Cloud Enrollment.

Within three weeks, the client saved approximately $200,000, primarily a result of consolidating workloads from its Windows Server and SQL Server instances.

After the client made the switch, Insight immediately began to focus on licensing optimization and defining a road map for the organization’s software management, providing updates at a weekly cadence.
