Today, technology is no longer supporting the business — it is the business. And companies are beginning to make the connection between their business goals and their IT investments.
This is certainly true for a growing manufacturer of polyester staple fibers. In a niche but competitive market, the company concentrates on strategic positioning with a heightened focus on areas of sustainability, growth, trade leadership, low-cost production and innovation.
The manufacturer prioritized agility to take advantage of state-of-the-art technology. However, an aging data center was slowing the company’s progress. In order to leverage new technology that would support the business’s goals, the client needed to invest in a data center refresh.
The core of a sustainable and scalable technology refresh had to begin with the client’s data center. Insight’s Cloud + Data Center Transformation team worked alongside stakeholders at the manufacturing company to identify and prioritize critical business applications — as well as to define technical requirements that would need to be met to support the business into the future.
The joint team evaluated processors and related technology options that would best fit the client’s needs and proposed a refresh using Hewlett Packard Enterprise Gen10 servers. The servers are equipped with Intelligent System Tuning technologies that adapt to changing workload requirements, which fulfilled the company’s need for greater agility. In addition, the servers offered flexible scalability to keep up with the manufacturer’s projected growth.
After the refresh was successfully completed, the business experienced an immediate increase in performance and reliability, indicating the data center is running much more efficiently. Communication and workload management between compute systems and the storage area network also improved greatly. The faster performance had a trickle-down effect for users, and managers reported a noticeable uptick in productivity.
The data center refresh helped the client improve time to market by an estimated 25%. And, because it was only the first step in the company’s IT road map to business transformation, many of the benefits are only just beginning to be realized.
The client sought long-term value in more than just its technology — it also wanted a reliable partner. The business heavily evaluated relationships between potential partners and original equipment manufacturers. The long-standing, meaningful relationships Insight has built with a wide range of partners made us a partner the client could trust.
Insight is continuing to work with the client on more ways to help the business solve IT challenges and prepare for the future.
